MCEBuddy

Since 2005, the MCEBuddy has been serving the DVR community with the functionality it has to offer free of charge. This is an application that can help you save disk space by shrinking video files and can help you have a more enjoyable viewing experience by removing ads and by converting recordings to formats that you can use on other systems and portable devices.

You will first have to get an 8MB archive off the web and onto your computer, should you decide to give MCEBuddy a try. In the archive there’s an MSI and an EXE file; run any of them to install the application on your Windows PC. You shouldn’t have any problems with the installation process, since a wizard will guide you along.

MCEBuddy does not put a shortcut on your desktop, so to access its functionality you must click on the MCEBuddy folder in the Start Menu – and to be more precise, you must launch MCEBuddy Configuration from the MCEBuddy folder in the Start Menu. The interface is simple and focused on functionality. If you have any problems understanding how to access that functionality, there’s an “Installation Guide” in the same MCEBuddy folder in the Start Menu that comprehensively explains how to use and how the application works.

As mentioned above, you can use the MCEBuddy application for Windows to convert, shrink, and remove ads from recordings and other videos. The application provides support for WTV, DVR-MS, TS, MPEG, MP4, AVi, and other formats. MCEBuddy does its job in the background at scheduled times (at midnight).
